Why was Tupaia not recognized

Captain James Cook first came to New Zealand in October of 1769.
Cook was a British explorer who sailed on the ship HMS Endeavour and he had a Polynesian navigator called Tupia.
Tupia was not recognized by the white men on the ship as important but he was very useful and he made peace between the Maori people and the white people.

Tupia was a very good navigator and he hasn’t acknowledged until recently.

Tupaia was a Polynesian navigator who helped Captain Cook find New Zealand but he was not recognized until very recently. If Tupaia did not help Cook with navigation he may never have found New Zealand. When Tupaia was on the boat with all of the white men he was not considered important. He also helped to make peace between the Maori people and the white people because he could understand them. Tupaia was not in the books of the English people and was only found out because of the Polynesian stories carried

British history books were not complete. Because Tupaia was not recorded in the history books were there more people that are missing from them. If you look in the history books you will not find Tupaia anywhere. We only know about him now because of Polynesian stories. But if nobody had passed theses tales on we wouldn’t know about him. The history books were wrong and there could be more people.

Captain Cook was not the best leader. If he was a better and fairer leader the Maori people would be better off if he didn’t let his men shoot them. When they arrived and set up camp they traded nails and metal trinkets for food, wood, and sex. They oppressed the Maori people and when they rebelled they got shot. The white people were very unfair on the Maori people.

Tupia was not recognized by the white men on the ship as important but he was very useful and he made peace between the Maori people and the white people. Tupaia and the Maori people were not treated right. The history books didn’t acknowledge Tupaia. Tupaia has now been recognized.
